Well, friends… today we gave it everything we had, but the mountain won this round.
Over the last 7 days, Stevens Pass has been hammered with 70 inches of snow, including a significant rain event mid‑storm cycle. Then last night, 21 inches fell on a hard, frozen rain crust, creating one of the most volatile avalanche setups we’ve seen in a long time. As snowfall continued to intensify throughout the day, avalanche conditions evolved quickly, prompting our teams to reassess terrain safety and adjust operations accordingly.
Stevens Pass is known for its steep, technical terrain, and when the snowpack destabilizes this quickly, it becomes impossible to keep up with it in real time. Our team pushed hard from first light, but ultimately, employee safety and guest safety come first, always. When the risk outweighs the reward, we make the call, and today that meant closing the resort and cancelling night skiing.
We want to thank our staff for their unwavering commitment and our guests for their patience and understanding. We’ll be back at it tomorrow morning, giving it another go. Our goal is to open as much terrain as possible once conditions allow.
Stay safe, stay snow‑stoked, and we hope to see you back on the mountain soon. ❄️⛷️🏔️
